Can I get a woot woot!

July 14, 2013

After yesterdays epic fail, today I feel like Wednesday Addams 🙂  Success is sweet!

When I was working on Simplicity 2215, I was doing a 3 1/4 to 3 1/2 FBA based on the distance between the pattern center front and my center front.  That was too MUCH.  The bodice front looked like a cone bra

and the apex was pointing everywhere but where they should

The muslin bodice of Simplicity 2886 view A fits.

I would post pictures but I don’t want to show my stomach and I’m not wearing makeup and the hair is in a messy ponytail.  For this pattern, I did a 2 inch FBA and it looked fine.  I could probably do a 2 1/4 inch FBA.

Next up, the skirt of the dress.

Once I finish 2886, I will go back to 2215.  I like the dress and now that the bust fitting issue seams to be solved it won’t be as frustrating.

I’m happy with sewing again 🙂

I won!

(Warning!!! Don’t play the Little Miss Sunshine clip at work or with the volume up.  It could cause momentary hearing loss.  Just kidding about the hearing loss 🙂  It is loud!)

Little Miss Sunshine – I won

I like podcasts.  I listen to two sewing podcasts Sew Forth Now and Enchanted by Sewing.   I enjoy both podcasts but you have to wait a while for the next podcast.  One day, I searched sewing podcasts in iTunes and found Disparate Disciplines.  W00-hoo!  The first episode I listerned to had two sewing friends discussing “Are you a ‘sewer’ or a ‘sewist’? and there was a giveway!  Not only did I discover a new podcast but I discovered two new sewing blogs:  Disparate Disciplines and Three Dresses Project 🙂  Anyway, I entered the giveaway for Cake Patterns “Tiramisu” dress and I WON!

Thank you so much Leila!

Who did that!!?!!

July 15, 2011

Hi everyone,

I’ve been a bad, bad blogger.  I’ve been sewing or making lots of muslins.  Recently, there’s been a whole muslingate  and here .   I make muslins.  I like muslins.  They work for me right now.  In fact, I’m glad I make muslins because it prevents stuff like this (see photo below) from happening to fashion fabric.

Okay, who did that!  You know it couldn’t have been me? Oh, wait.  It was me 😉  I can’t believe I messed up the back so royally.  I was too busy making sure that I inserted the invisible zipper that I forgot to mark matching locations for both the  zipper and muslin.

So what went wrong on the back…

  • incorrect invisible zipper insertion
  • one size too big at the hip
  • shorten bodice (wrinkles)?

Let’s look at the front

What went wrong with the front

  • someone forgot to change the facings to match the dress front.
  • one size to big in the hip
  • need more waist shaping at the side seam otherwise it looks like I’m wearing a sack.

This morning, I removed the facings and the zipper.  I’m going to make some changes and try it again.   When I get the fitting issues resoled, I’m using these fabrics from Gail K.  I want to make two dress.

Have a great weekend 🙂

The Original Sewing and Quilt Expo – Atlanta

March 17, 2011

So I attended the Original Sewing and Quilt Expo on Saturday.  I really hadn’t planned on attending any classes.  All I wanted to do was a little shopping.  I did a little shopping at Silhouette Patterns and Lorraine Henry’s booth.  I did take Lorraine Henry’s class on pants which was great considering that I just finished the trouser sewalog.  She did show me a few things that I could could use for the back of my pants.  1.  using a 40 inch flexible ruler to trace my curve and 2. she compared her body curve to different pants patterns body curve.  What a difference.    The main thing that I could use on the back pants patterns is to tilt above the crotch forward.  I’ll probably blog about it next month.

I did see Faye at the Expo and it was really good talking with her again.  Hi Faye ::waving::

Here’s what I bought.

From Silhouette patterns  #3400 Three piece yoga pants, Basic Pattern Making DVD.  From Conselle  40 inch flexible curve and Bias fusible tape.

That’s all for shopping.  I’ve decided to buy the Brother 2340CV coverhem machine so I’m saving my money.

On the sewing front, I have been making several muslins of dress bodices.  I want to make a new dress for Easter.  So far I’m tried Vogue 8667 view D.

I’ve given up on this for now.  Doing a 3 inch FBA and lowering the bust point on a shoulder princess seam is a lot of work.   I’ve moved on to Butterick B5147 view C.

Still need to do 3 inch FBA and lower bust point but it’s a little easier.

That’s it for now.
